Int. About Josh - Early Years
JOSH LOVISON is born in California.
JOSH
San Diego, actually. Land of sunshine, beaches, and delicious sushi.
Over the following few years, Josh cultivates a fascination and love for film and TV. Initially, this inspires him to try a stint
at acting, which he attempts in late elementary school. Taking acting classes and driving up to LA for auditions proves exciting, but it is his
first role that is a transformative experience.
JOSH
During the shoot, which was a small aviation infomercial filmed on location in Iowa, I was exposed to the "behind the scenes" of
filmmaking firsthand. This redefined my understanding of continuity, and from then on I started watching movies differently.
In addition, Josh also finds that the guy behind the camera calling out to various people seems to be the one with the most
creative influence, and Josh starts to want to direct more than he wants to act. Josh starts to do extra work for class
projects, shooting videos instead of making posters or shoebox dioramas. Eventually, during the summer between Junior and Senior year of High
School, he goes to a New York Film Academy summer program to learn more about his passion.
Int. About Josh - College Years
Despite a great experience with the NYFA program, Josh decides not to apply to film school.
JOSH
I'd decided I wanted to finish obtaining a solid general education, and would apply for film in graduate school.
So, Josh goes to the University of California, San Diego as a Psychology major. Since he has a spot on the fencing team,
Josh is able to pre-register for classes, and as a result, is able to take upper division classes even as a freshman. Again, Josh spends his
summer focused on flim, and takes a class at NYU in the summer between freshman and sophomore year. There, he comes to a realization.
JOSH
I found my experience in that class at NYU extremely rewarding. I realized that no matter how interesting I was finding
"Abnormal Psychology" or "Linguistic Programming", I was doing myself a disservice staying at UCSD.
Josh transfers into New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for film production after his sophomore year. Because of
the way he'd structured his class load at UCSD, when his credits transfer, he's completed NYU's general education requirements, which allows
Josh to focus exclusively on film for his two years there.
JOSH
While it was two years exclusively focused on film and video, I tried to get as comprehensive a knowledge as possible of each
department involved in the industry, which ended up in a varied education.
Josh takes classes on writing, producing, directing, production design, acting, editing, sound design, and sound mixing. In
addition to class curriculum, Josh completes five internships while at NYU, including one with a casting director, one at HDNet Films' development
department, and one with IFC Films' Post Production Supervision department.
Int. About Josh - Recent Years
After graduating, Josh decides to stay in New York City, and finds employment at a trade publication for the
advertising industry called MediaPost. While there, Josh becomes the go-to guy for all the company's video content, and ends up editing and
shooting hundreds of hours of video. In addition, Josh learns a great deal about how ad-supported content is financed, and the detailed concepts
surrounding the emerging and changing digital platforms.
JOSH
Most recently, I just finished co-writing a script for a feature film, and am planning on moving out Los Angeles in the coming
months.
